Right now as I type this is isn't and I'm able to test the mouse and change DPI settings just fine. Regarding the s/w afaik you don't need to have it running all the time, after you have made changes just close it. They do not need to be sticking out so far.
Or because I got it so cheap £18 - remove and modify the buttons by reducing the height on a varying grit sandpaper and hope they annoy me less. Scroll wheel sensor is trash, occasionally reverses on-screen scrolling. Switches (buttons and wheel) in it are trash (need replacing every 6-8 months) Sensor (unknown) - 3mm lift-off, tilt tracking good. Scroll wheel sensor - is tough and still going strong. Switches - are tough and still going strong. So mice including the M100 I have tried so far. I have spotted the mouse guide, and this sensor/switch guide but its recommended list is small and old now.
